Kriegsmarine as the German Navy in World War II was referred to as is the journey in life of two boys, both borne to parents who had migrated from Germany to the fictional picturesque town of Hartzstein, Pennsylvania, located at the base of the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania at the outbreak of the first World War.
Follow the paths taken by Gerhardt Kroner and his lifelong friend Karl Schuour as they grow up in Hartzstein as best friends but always in competition with each other, a competition that goes from friendly to deadly as Gerhardt (Gerry) graduates from the US Naval Academy, his friend Karl from Penn State University, and then goes to Germany to help his Grandfather Conrad Steinhauer in running his U-boat building business just before the outbreak of World War II.
Gerry Kroner becomes the Captain of a US Navy Destroyer and Karl is forced by the Nazi Government to become a Captain of one of the U-boats built at his grandfather's shipbuilding yards as their friendly rivalry takes on a life or death seriousness.
Besides being an adventure story, Kriegsmarine is also a love story of the bond of two best friends and that of Karl's love for Ruth Hamerhof, a German-born native that is of Jewish descent and her pursuit by the dreaded Chief of the Bremerhaven Gestapo to arrest her as she was able to evade them when her family was arrested and sent to a Nazi Death Camp and exterminated.
Gerry and Karl's paths cross one final time in a final and deadly encounter, yet their friendship and brotherly love for each other never ends.
